Teacher Created Materials Marks Read Across America Day with Volunteer Projects at Dr. Merton E. Hill Elementary School in Garden Grove
Activities on Monday, March 3 included a school-wide reading event, colorful mural, fence art, and US map to beautify school grounds
Huntington Beach, California, March 3, 2014 -- In conjunction with the National Education Association's annual Read Across America Day, approximately 100 volunteers from Teacher Created Materials (TCM), a leading publisher of supplementary educational materials located in Huntington Beach, shared their teaching, reading and painting talents to Garden Grove's Dr. Merton E. Hill Elementary School.
The activities at the school on Monday, March 3 from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm included a school-wide reading event, colorful mural designed by TCM staff, and US map as well as creating fence art to beautify the school grounds.
The elementary school serves approximately 400 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, including 98 enrolled in the school's Special Education Program. The company selected the school based upon its needs and importance to the community it serves. The school is located at 9681 11th Street in Garden Grove.
"We are delighted to acknowledge Read Across America Day by devoting our energies to the deserving students and faculty at Hill," said Corinne Burton, President of Teacher Created Materials. "We are impressed by the school's goals to have its students become self-actualized learners, skilled communicators, problem-solvers, and socially conscientious citizens and hope that our efforts will in a small way help further them."
"In these tight budgetary times, it is exciting to partner with Teacher Created Materials," said Erin Lara, the school's principal. "We are delighted to welcome volunteers from a company that is dedicated to supporting service learning and academic success in local schools, and know our students will benefit for years to come from their involvement with this project."
